Persistent air leaks (PAL) are a most common complication after lung surgery, but the interpretation of evidence on (preventive) management is not easy. Heterogeneity in definitions and sometimes even conflicting evidence cause that surgeons often base their management on experience and preferences. Results of a survey sent to all Dutch thoracic surgeons were combined with outcomes from the Dutch Lung Cancer Audit for Surgery to gain insight into Dutch clinical practice regarding PAL management.
